When I go home tonight, I'll tell Luis this story.

Mama went home a little disappointed last night but didn't lose hope. Expecting there was something more today.

As the day went, I knew there was something fishy going on. Tito Jon and Tita Bibi did not join us for lunch.

Tito Jon lied and said he's going with Smart friends. What he didn't know was Ninang Jing already told me they were going to buy COKE for me. ;p

So I knew something great was happening. I looked forward to the sight of chocolate cake covered with yummy white icing that had Mr. Bean on it.

Because I specifically told Tito Jon, I'm okay with Mr. Bean in case they'll have a hard time finding my pic.

And so lunch went that way…

After lunch and back in the office, Tita Iris said she wanted chocolate cake...

This is Luis' current favorite song. He loves playing his drums while the song's playing as he sings, too.

Luis plays side by side with his mentor.

Cameras, still and video, are not allowed in school especially during the 1st week of classes. So these are all I have. Check out the sneaky video clips,

I've always looked forward to Luis' another first...his first ever bday party in school. Oh yes. Luis turned 4 last July 16th. His school has advised all parents during our orientation that all parties can only be done on a Friday and during snack time. In short, we can only have a 30-minute snacks only bday party on a Friday nearest Luis' bday. I didn't realize that Friday would be the 13th day of the month.

Flashback 2 months ago. Thinking of a theme wasn't that hard as Luis' current fave is nonetheless Thomas the Tank. But in Manila, you can hardly find any Thomas party stuff. Good thing I was US bound last May. In the land where Thomas was everywhere, I managed to get my invites and party cups from there. Then thanks to Emi who sent Luis his school bag with stickers and a bday banner. I also got ready to order some more stuff until I found out that we will only be allowed to do a 30-minute party. From then on, I only had one thing left to order...the bday cake! It can't b...

That's the first word we heard when we met Luis' teachers for our first ever PTC (Parent Teacher Conference) after their first quarter in school. They were referring to Luis' 1st Quarter assessment (also known as 1st Quarter Exams in common schools) which he perfected. :)

Yes, up to now I can't help but smile when I think about what transpired 10 hours ago. Jonald and I arrived 15 minutes earlier than our appointment. The PTC was done in their conference room which had dividers to segregate the 4 classes that were conducting the PTC. There were a number of parents waiting for their turn, including the two of us.

When our turn finally came, we sat in front of Luis' teachers who first appeared to be hesitant to tell us the results of Luis' assessment. It turned out, they were too happy to tell us that Luis perfected the exam and that they cannot say anything else because he got everything correctly. Modesty aside, we were confident Luis will do well in his assessment. But our bonus ...

And Mama's tagging along! Unlike the field trips we've known, Apples and Oranges will have theirs only for half a day, within Metro Manila. Watch out for pictures and hopefully, a blog entry for this one.

Once you see the pictures, you'll agree with me. This is what happens when you go out on a 2-night business trip alone.

Luis' 1st ever field trip. Of course, Mama had to tag along. Our first "solo" date was so tiring yet very special.:)

Seeing long lost grade school friends seemed to be the theme of my 2 recent trips to the US. In Feb, Oyie and I made sure we'll spend time with Detdet and her family. In May, Janis was our target. Aside from business to first class seats, these are the better perks I get out of these trips.

The whole family minus Ate Aya went to Ninong Noel's wedding on Sept 8 at the Holy Child Chapel and Cafe Villa at the Philippine Army's Officers

This long weekend, we decided to stay home. Jonald, Luis and me. One afternoon with Luis and me chatting with nothing else to do, Luis had something in mind....

Luis: "Mama, can you eat me?"

Me(thinking we were doing some play pretend) : "Sure, baby, I will eat you..yum...yum..yum..."

Luis: Hindi. Pakainin mo ko, Mama. Hungry ako.

And I ended up hugging my unico hijo with a big laugh!

When my current US stint was planned, I made sure I won't miss any school activities. Unfortunately, I missed the Firefighters' visit, photo ops for their class picture, and the Community Helpers' Parade. All in one week while I'm in the US. Prior to my flight, I told Jonald to make sure Luis' costume for the parade will be a hit. Knowing Jonald, he would go for convenience. He'll probably just pick anything that would turn our boy into a Community Helper. Well, I guess I was wrong. Here is what my boys worked on: Luis the Carpenter had his hard hat on, regular friday clothes but this time with belt that held the tools and an improvised Handy Manny toolbox! Yes, Jonald did everything by himself under Luis' supervision. :) Enjoy the
